My Scholarship entry - Through Relationship
El Salvador | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | flickr photos
My experiences have taught me that everything is connected. Each person is important. Each story deserves to be heard. Each landscape seen and honored. It is my dream to record and experience this awe-inspiring world that we live in. I want to learn to document the world in a way that conveys emotion and makes the viewer experience a connection to the image. To successfully combine my passions for photography, travel, and relationship into something that can be understood and felt by all people would fulfill this goal. While I was in El Salvador I spent much of my time with the Guardado family and with them I first understood that we are all family. We are often divided by race, language, religion, and a myriad of other things, but beyond that, at the core of humanity, is relationship. Deep within our cores we are all connected. I want to use photography to document this connection; to show people that beyond what divides us we are the same. The more we understand this connection, the greater the change we can create. This scholarship would enable me to take the next step to explore, understand, and record that connection; creating a way for others to feel, understand, and learn.
