The next generation of Toreros

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | flickr photos

This series takes place in Malaga, Andalusia, Spain in July 2011. The upcoming generation of young Toreros is having a show. The people of Malaga, who traditionally watch Corridas, are all invited to watch these young men fighting the bull. This ceremonial is very important in the life of a Torero as he exhibits his skills to his future audience. The audience, it is for them kind of a foretaste to what's coming a fews weeks later... The season of the Corrida. When well trained and famous Matadores run the show.
The arena is being prepared to host the fight. The sand is being flattened. The young Toreros offer a dance in which the audience can see the way each one of them work with his cape. It's a warm up for the audience as well as it is to the fighters because as soon as the dance is over, the bull enters the arena. May the fight start.

So many, things happening around the Mediterranean; So many different cultures in such a small territory. I was born and raised around it. Between France and Syria. Now I live in Montreal, Canada and I am currently studying photography at Dawson college.
