My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Ukraine | Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 5 photos

I took this pictures in my trip to Crimea in a small village near to the sea. Crimea is a beautiful place that is nearly forgotten by Ukrainian government, excluding very touristic places it looks empty and hopeless. I saw apparently abandoned house with kids coming in and out and I felt an impulse to know more about the life of this family.
I think it's amazing to see this little faces not smiling like kids but with very adult expressions of bitterness. Being to several countries moved by my passion to the travel photography I found that the people speak better than anything else, everything we want to know about the place: economy, politics, cultural environment.
This family lives its everyday life with the father always drunk, and children growing in the street almost without basic hygienical facilities, and schools too far away to have a hope for education. But these people are just like us, they feel like us, they dream about better life and every of these kids have hopes for the future, they are just not lucky enough to be born in another place.
There are persons and situations that can impact us, so as a photographer I can discover things like that and show it to the world. And showing stories of the people can change things, because it helps to others to see what they didn't see before. This way we can make the world a better place no matter how little is this difference. The first step is always know and be conscious of what is happening in different places in the world.
So this is my philosophy and I dream of becoming a professional travel photographer to do what I think is the most important thing I can do in this life, and something that makes a real difference. Being in an assignment for National Geographic... can there be something better?
