My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

South Africa | Tuesday, October 11, 2011 | 5 photos

I am 26 years old and I live for capturing the creation. Photography is my passion and has become a second nature to me, as I travel everywhere with my camera. I love being in the outdoors and capturing the wonders of the creation, especially wildlife. The photos I have submitted for this scholarship were taken while I was in the Kruger National Park in June.

The Zebra was the first I took of the weekend and looks as if it was attacked by a predator not long ago. The giraffe and worthogs grazing together in peace and tranquility is very special to me. The Squirrel was really a lucky shot as I accidentally saw it while going through a loop. The windmill is one of my favorites as I captured it about 1 and a half hours before sunset and love the composition of the bush, blue skies, and the rusty windmill with nests in it. Lastly, I captured the small herd of Zebras just as they finish drink on my way back to the Letaba Camp.

I believe that I should be given the scholarship as I am willing to learn, I have a passion for photography and I live for being in the outdoors capturing wildlife. I believe this would be a huge step for me in the right direction, as in South Africa if you are young white male and don't build up something for yourself from scratch you will not get anywhere. My wife and I just spoke last week about the fact that I would like to pursue a career in photography. My brother and I also have a dream to start a Afrikaans travel channel on DSTV someday.

I believe being able to work with Jason Edwards and to learn from him would allow me to be successful in what my dreams and aspirations are and that is wildlife and travel photography. When one is willing to listen and learn and go the extra 5miles like I am willing. I believe one deserves this opportunity.
