Hawaii- view from an outsider

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

My name is Charlotte Heath and I am 18 years old. I am Welsh and have lived in Wales for 13 and a half years, then my father received a job in California, San Francisco, and we lived there for 2 and a half years. We then moved to Hawaii for a year and finally since June 2010 I have lived in Perth WA. It has been rewarding and demanding moving around this many times, but I believe that I have grown as a person. Travelling to these places has let me appreciate life and love the people I meet and embrace whatever is thrown at me. Also I have had a great opportunity to realize that my passion is photography, I have started a photography club at school and try to lead as best as my skills allow me but to have this opportunity to learn so much and visit Africa would be beyond any words. These photos reflect the place of Hawaii. I lived in Hawaii for a year and even though I found it hard to settle in I really valued the beauty of it and the feeling of peace while watching the sunset over the horizon with the beautiful mountains. The sunsets I have seen there are beyond the best I have seen anywhere in the world and that is why I relate sunsets to Hawaii where it truly is a paradise. Inside that paradise there is a chance to spot beauty where ever you are, whether it is in the form of a flower, opened after rainfall in the middle of a little pond, or seeing kite surfers enjoying the open ocean together as they glide through the water. The paradise comes with its own culture and the beauty of their unfaltering passion of that culture is seen all around. Starting in 1819 the luau was a feast and celebration. Men and women would eat, dance, and pay tribute to their king. The story is complete with the knowledge that beauty can be found anywhere.
