After each spending months on the road for business, my brother Greg and I needed a break. Flights, hotels, rental cars and stuffy meetings and conferences had taken their toll, and we just wanted to "get away from it all" for a few days. A co-worker had wonderful things to say about Stuart's Point, so we decided that that would be our 'getaway' destination. And was that ever a great choice!
Late on Wednesday evening, we loaded up our camping gear, fishing tackle, coolers, food and luggage in preparation of the following morning's departure.
Leaving Sydney at 5am, we arrived at our destination, Stuart's Point Holiday Park, about six hours later. The drive here was beautiful; the vista, upon arrival, was simply breathtaking.
Located right along the meandering Macleay River, we found Stuart's Point to be a really peaceful, quiet little village, appreciating this as we drove around a bit to acquaint ourselves after setting up 'camp'.
Our campsite at Stuart's Point Holiday Park was beautiful. Upon arrival, we had the choice of either a shady campsite, or a sunny one directly over the river front reserve. Electing the shady spot (a site with electricity), we were happy to see that the camp kitchen was but a very short walk away.
Over the next few days, we really had a great time barbecuing on their grills and spending a little time in their kitchen (taking advantage of their electric kettle, and even the toaster and refrigerator on a couple of occasions).
The 'camp camaraderie' was terrific there. Campers were there from all throughout Australia; we even met an American couple. They were all so very friendly and inviting. That will surely be one of our lasting memories of the trip.
We went fishing twice in the next 3 days, casting and dropping our lines from the riverside and a small shoal we found by way of a canoe a fellow camper was so gracious to lend to us.
As we had done a bit of research about the park, we discovered that there were tennis courts next to the park, so we partook in a few games on one rather warm and humid morning.
After freshening up and lunch, we decided some more sedentary activities were in order for the rest of the day. We decided to take a stroll down this charming timber footbridge, and kept on going until we reached Grassy Head. It was a terrific way to get out and enjoy the beautiful area. We eventually got to the ocean, and spent a bit of peaceful, quiet time there taking in the wonderful views.
We had initially thought that this trip would be a "one-time shot". But the beauty of the area, the peaceful tranquility, the enjoyment we had in participating in different activities, and the terrific, heartwarming relations we had with such happy, friendly co-campers has us changing our mind. We've made sure to make a return visit very high on our priority list. It's one entire vacation we'll never forget.
