Craig's Experience in Wales A personal documentation of my journey as an exchange student in Great Britain

A simple smile

Hey everyone! Before I hit the hay I just wanted to jot down this quick reflection of the night. I went to my second meeting of the Christian Union and heard a guy (his name was confusing to pronounce) speak about the resurrection of Christ. But before that a student named William gave his testimony, how God has used him in the lives of others, and how much confidence he receives from God. William has cerebral palsy. Because of this disorder he has difficulty speaking, yet is still able to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas. Hearing him up there was so incredible. But what strikes me even more is that I saw him today outside the window of the bus as we passed him on the way to campus. It was cold, misty and quite dreary today. Not exactly enjoyable walking weather, I suppose. Or at least that's what I thought. As I looked at William for a brief moment, I saw him turn his head toward the bus. For that brief moment I witnessed something that seemed to grab me. He was smiling. It was such a happy smile ... one of joy ... one of satisfaction about life. As I write this, I am immediately reminded of a song by Kutless called "Smile" in which one of the lyrics simply goes, " a smile says it all..." You see, I didn't need to hear William talk tonight to know that Christ rules his heart. Why? Because his smile said it all. Also at the meeting tonight, I met the captains of the CU soccer team. I gave them my number and they said they'd contact me with details. It didn't take long to get these details as one of the guys called me about half an hour later and informed me that they needed one more guy for tomorrow's match. I was happy to say yes, so tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 I will be making my futbol debut in Wales. The US gets David Beckham and the UK gets Craig Byer. Not a bad trade.... I can kick a ball, too. GOD BLESS, EVERYONE AND MAKE THE MOST OF THE DAY THAT GOD HAS PROVIDED! Philippians 1:3, Craig
