Modernization does change people’s life. I saw a nearby house having a ‘kendi’ – a traditional jar made of clay—in front of their house. It is something I can't find easily in my neighborhood. I have no idea until I read an article about travelers.
Long time ago, while traveling was only possible by walking, every house put kendi contains of water in front of their home and a glass in addition. By that, travelers were having no worries about being dehydration during their trips. They could drink it as much as they like and it’s even free—something that we won’t get easily from any strangers nowadays. So I was wondering that actually Indonesians are very helpful each other, even with strangers. Modernized vehicles made us possible to travel much faster, no much energy needed anymore. Therefore, kendi containing water do not seem to be appear much in front of citizens’ place nowadays. This tradition is gone now, lucky that I am the one who have known it.
