My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Sunday, August 15, 2010 | 5 photos
My name is Calum, i have lived in Gladstone for most of my life. Everyday, starting work, I am comforted knowing that I am saving money to travel, and find more of the worlds beauties. As an artist of many different aspects, painting, music and amateur photography, everything has a story to me, nothing is worth overlooking.
Most of my photos are taken on my "little adventures", as my parents refer to them as. I will literally spot something that I never want to forget, and take the photo, hoping someone else will appreciate what i've seen. Be it extraordinary colours, shadows, or motions. When someone is unable to see a picture how I do, I like to try to talk them through it.
Although I haven't mastered photography by any degree, I've learnt the basics, and just like other art forms, it seems no one ever stops learning in the industry.
The photos I chose to enter for this contest, were ones that took my eye when going through my folders, with thousands of pictures to go through, the choice to narrow it down to five, wasn't an easy one.
The first picture, of a tree with the moon peeping through its branches at night, is a picture I love looking at. It just reminds me of a time when I went driving alone, and found this special spot.
Next is of mangroves at sunset, talking about it doesnt do it justice, but the colour and light was entrancing.
Then there is a local lilly pond, the place in itself was peaceful, the pink on green, brightly coloured, was perfect at the time against the grey sky.
The fourth picture, of an abandoned carriage, somewhat symbolises to me, fearlessness in my journey to get the picture I want.
My final picture, of a waterfront from the perspective of far off, expressed the loneliness I was feeling, when I went out to find a spot to think.
Thank you.
