"Know the world... know yourself..."

hey everyone...
 
so i did make it to bali after 21 hours, which were surprisingly not grueling. my 2 stereotypes about the balinese were immediatley confirmed - first, they are the kindest people ever; second, they have strict rules but are more than willing to bend them for dollars.
 
at immigration, they have a 'non-negotiable' policy about a 30 day max visa without possibility of extension. i thought i'd try my luck however, so i asked the guy if there is any way i could stay a little longer. he asked me how long, then sent me to his friend, another officer. that officer gave me his cell phone number and told me just to call him before 30 days are up and he'd take care of it. right there at the immigration counter..
 
anyways, i'm staying in kuta tonight, but opted to leave for ubud tomorrow morning. my hotel isnt great here and its far from the beach so there isnt much to do. ubud is really what i was looking forward to anyways though so why not go a day early.
 
i wasnt able to get a phone card just yet, so i'm going to wait to call from ubud. (sunday night your time). someone please call both the grandmas and let them know why i havent called, but that i've written, i'm fine, and i will call soon.
 
one other funny thing - before i left the airport, i withdrew 1.3 million indonesian rupiah from the atm. its only about $140, but i still got a kick out of it. =)
