My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Morocco | Friday, January 11, 2013 | flickr photos

My travels have elucidated for me that my passion for photography allows me to explore visual story telling. My love for English has complimented my artistic pursuits and I plan to incorporate the two, with aspirations of becoming a travel writer and photographer. I avidly watch Nat Geo, aspiring to venture to remote destinations photographing the inhabitants, both human and animal alike. Photography is a universal language, shattering cultural and gender barriers through the creation of art. I am fascinated with portraits, having completed for pre-tertiary art photography and large-scale portraiture. I am inspired by the medium and believe that this trip to Oman will provide me with the opportunity I require to develop my skills and enter into a highly competitive and rewarding industry. My photo essay, a collection of portraits, connects each subject through their shared vulnerability. I attempted to utilise the camera as a gateway to their inner tale. I tried to capture the hardship suffered and adversity required by the souk’s merchants, beggars and animals. These photographs aim to re-conceptualise the personal stories of individual strangers, providing an unbiased account.
