My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I have applied for the Oman Scholarship for one reason: I love stories. I am driven by a desire to go everywhere and meet everyone. I speak three languages fluently and have traveled extensively, wandering through South America, Asia and Northern Africa as well as studying for a semester in Paris. I have slept on streets, in bus shelters and on beaches; living as cheaply as possible to stay on the road for as long as possible. I would not trade on moment on the road, for every moment is a story that contributes to the haphazard tapestry that is my experience of life. The development of my passion for photography is a desire to share these stories. They say a picture speaks a thousand words. I disagree. A picture stands in a realm beyond words. It expresses what is linguistically inexpressible. A photo is a reality. It cannot be fabricated. It captures a moment that was; a moment that has forever been confined to history and the ambiguity of description except within that frame where nothing will ever change. Humanity, so diverse in all its complexities, is so united in its simplicities. This ability to convey a story is what motivates me to become a photographer.
