My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Canada | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos
My interest in photography began at 17 years old, growing from a lifetime of wilderness experience as a mountain biker, skier, and backcountry trekker on Canada's west coast. Now 22, I'm finishing an ecology degree and plan to work as a natural history photographer/ecologist.
Photography is my primary passion, giving me a strong desire to explore my surroundings from a new perspective, in every season and weather condition. I have focused primarily on nature, and wish to learn more about shooting stories as opposed to primarily single images. I would like to diversify my subject matter by incorporating cultural aspects in my work. This scholarship would greatly help me learn photojournalistic skills, and provide me with a foundation to become a natural history photojournalist. I am very eager to learn new ways for my images to foster awareness and change.
The arctic has always been my dream destination, which makes this scholarship especially appealing. My previous cultural exchanges have made me excited to learn more about the world. I am hard working, friendly, open-minded, physically able and technically skilled enough to make the most of this incredible learning experience.
