Mesa Verde National Park

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 4 photos

Mesa Verde National Park is the first national park, in the USA, designated for the preservation of human culture - that of the Anasazi peoples. These cliff dwellings and petroglyphs provide amazing evidence of social, spiritual, and cultural aspects of life from the modern Pueblo era, that is so much older than many of us can imagine. This experience, like my experience among the Mons of Thailand, opens my eyes - intellectually, emotionally, and culturally. I am being attentive about history - mine and others - as I reflect on the enormity of shared historical stories. Travel and photography have been the primary tools of my education as an adult. I'd like to be selected so that I can begin the process of engaging young people in learning about self and others through historical documentation. I have never been to Bhutan, or any of the countries in that part of the world - so to be selected AND have the opportunity to be mentored by a professional photographer would be a much more than I could have ever imagined. The experience would leave me permanently and profoundly changed for the better personally and professionally.
