Reasons I am a Horrible Backpacker

A list to make my mother proud
1) I shower
Not only on a daily basis, but often multiple times a day. Call me crazy, but when it is over 100 degrees with 60% humidity I think two showers are in order. Maybe even three.
2) I do my laundry
Again, regularly. Not once a month, not when you can't remember what is an intentional pattern and what is dirt, but when things have been worn.
3) I brought more than one pair of shorts
Maybe this is just because I have been traveling with mostly boys. No matter the reason, it is gross.
4) I have a job to return to
You cannot feel original if you quit your job and are coming to Asia to "find yourself". You can, however, be teased for having a job. I have been deemed "the young professional" by more than one group of friends.
5) I tend to my wounds
Everyone has something in SE Asia. Not everyone cleans theirs. I go to the doctor every time.
6) I contact home regularly
Most backpackers find it comical that I update my family with every location, email them often, and am only a week behind on my blog. Many have been away for over a year and contact their family monthly, if that. I told you I was awesome, Mom.
7) I am horrible at being alone and saying goodbye
I have met some people that I will absolutely keep in touch with and quite a few that I will definitely visit (none from the states). I get sad when I say my goodbyes. I have almost changed my itinerary to stay with certain people more than once.
8) My travel time is given in weeks
Not months, not years, and not indefinitely. I get a little jealous of other people's travel plans but will be okay to return home.
9) I am still pale
I blame my habitual sunscreen habit for not having backpacker's skin. It can be tough to tell who is tan and who is dirty but either way I do not fit the mold (except my feet).
10) I have not fallen in love with someone from another continent, thrown all future intentions to the wind, and have plans to move across the world to be with them.
Yet.
