Castle in the Clouds The Magic of Hearst Castle

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Thursday, October 13, 2011 | 5 photos

These photos tell a story of a lost time and era of romance, decadence, and ethereal lives. I love to capture and share the emotions and feel of a place, thing, or person through photography. Hearst Castle exudes a strong mysticism that is intoxicating and takes visitors away to another time. I love the ability of photography to capture such things and share them with an audience. My dream is to use photography to help draw attention to physical disability in developing nations. I am a Prosthetist Orthotist by trade and through international volunteering and travel, have seen the hidden world of physical disability. In many nations, those with physical handicap are shunned, disowned and hidden away, when with the aid of simple devices, these people can often become productive members of society and lead fulfilling lives. I hope to assist in education and exposure of this discrimination through photography and capturing what lies beneath the physical exterior. Despite my lack of training in photography, I believe I have the desire to learn, the passion, and a strong goal and direction for my photography. Pictures are able to communicate so much and when dealing with physical disabilities, a photograph can touch people in ways words never could. By improving my photography skills, I hope to share the stories of the physically disabled and change lives. I would ideally integrate photography and international volunteerism to raise awareness and funding for those unable to find a voice of their own. This scholarship will help me hone my skills to improve my efficacy in sharing such a vital message and aid in my ability to partner with non-profit organizations.
