Every time I told someone I was going to start my four month solo backpacking trip in Bogota, Colombia they invariable asked this question:
"You're going where?"
inevitably followed by ominous warnings and jokes about coming home with all twenty digits. I have to admit, I was starting to get a little nervous myself until the first morning I walked out into the bright sunshine of Calle 11 in La Candelaria. The following four days were a whirlwind of museums, salsa dancing and just blissful aimless wandering through the vibrant city streets. Bogota is enormous. It's hard to get an idea of just how massive this city is. I stayed mostly near La Candelaria but ventured to Zona Rosa for some dancing, over to the Botanical Gardens, and to the Sunday flea market at Usaquen.Four days was just right for me and I left with a smile and all twenty fingers and toes very much intact.
