My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

New Zealand | Saturday, January 12, 2013 | 5 photos

My passion for photography began the first time I saw my parents with a camera. From that point on my interest grew. My cameras changed over the years from 110mm to a 36mm SLR format. When I learnt how to change the ISO settings to enhance a photograph, things really took off.
During my 8 year service in the British Army, I photographed my experiences in an attempt to document my time on operational tour, e.g. in Afghanistan and my time completing a charity cycle from Bosnia to Wales. It wasn't until I left the Army that I realised how to fully make use of the features of my camera. It is only now I realise the depth of knowledge required, and feel the opportunity you are willing to provide will greatly enhance my development and skill behind the lens.
I also love to travel. I have travelled around Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I am an active individual and not shy when it comes to a challenge. I like to immerse myself fully into the task at hand. I am confident, hardworking and passionate.
With the help of the National Geographic Society I’m eager to further develop my skills, knowledge and creativity in order to develop my future prospects as a photographer.
