My Scholarship entry - The Beach and Beyond

I have always desired to go to the Amazon Rainforest, the animals have always fascinated me and the beauty of the unknown is intoxicating. I have been to the Brazilian Amazon twice, once as part of a project for with my university, where I researched dolphins; I photographed and followed the majestic creatures during the floods. I have a basic understanding of Spanish and Portuguese from the experience as well as a drive to explore the world. The Amazon is the most beautiful place I have ever been to, and I have been looking for a reason to return. I love National Geographic and nature photography; I have been reading the magazine and enjoying the photographs for years. I have always wanted to work and be published by National Geographic and believe this is the perfect first step.
I am the Senior Producer at my university’s newspaper, The Daily Collegian, where I handle all multimedia including photography, videos and blogs before online publication. I am majoring in International Relations and journalism. I love to write, take photographs and travel. I believe this experience would be the first of many great opportunities.
