The faces of Vietnam

My Scholarship entry - Portraits showing the nature of Vietnamese people

Vietnam | Tuesday, November 18, 2014 | 5 photos

I am 18 years old and have always had a passion for photography. I love to take portraits as they show all the emotions behind the individual, so the photos are truly more than just an image. I recently went to Vietnam and I thought it was an incredible opportunity to get amongst the culture and learn about their history, after I got to know them I asked to take their portraits. I believe it is essential to engross yourself in the environment of where you are before you take a photo so you know the history of the culture and the land. I enjoy taking macro and landscape photos, there's nothing like the comparison between the big and small, they are two different worlds and deserve equal recognition. One day I would like to explore the world taking photos working for a photo magazine. I often hear people say, "why would you spend your time taking photos and not living the moment?" For me there is something more to photography than just memories... it's an art. I would like to be chosen for this incredible opportunity as I see it as an amazing chance to learn and explore further into the depths of photography from a professional in one of the worlds most stunning landscapes.
