The Eagles of the Cowichan Valley & First Nations peoples

Documentary Scholarship 2011 entry

WORLDWIDE | Wednesday, 15 June 2011 | Views [303] | Scholarship Entry

Watching the Eagles as they fish in the winter is a common event for First Nations peoples of Vancouver Island. Many days are spent communing with nature as we stand together and enjoy the daily escapades of the local Eagles. The local First Nations peoples have much in common with the Hierarchal structure of the familial relationships of the Eagles, and suffer much of the same problems they do. Stress has been found to be a killer, and both the Eagles and the First Nations peoples suffer it much in our ever changing communities.
I am attending VIU and obtaining my BA Degree in Digital Media Studies. I am learning the relationships of the community around me through my classes in film studies, news & culture, video & gaming, and audio works. The world we live in has changed much as I have seen through the years, and I wish to bring these changes to light through a new age study...in documentary.
I have found that there are many stories waiting to be told. The stories I have encountered are struggles of identity, love, community, and interaction with the 'other'; and all are beholden to communication. All of life is surrounded by sound, and I wish to add the sounds of peaceful communication to this forum. People and animal's lives will be greatly enhanced by understanding each other more, which I feel is the greatest part of communication. We shall find a need to cooperate in the struggle for survival.
