The steel rope knot
Hi CJWhat is the meaning of this mess of cables. And people standing close by????In a previous pic you took of a big truck in the ditch. What happened to make that happen? Is that in Tanzania? The road is paved so I thought that it might be in Rwanda.Love Dad

The cables are a mess because the cable was too long so they just tied it up so it wouldn't drag. As you can see from the swarm of people it took quite a few people to figure out how to best (haha) do this. At the time this picture was taken we were still trying to figure out how we were going to tow the land rover home (about 60 km). This perticular shoot is on the Tanzanian side of the border. There are very few paved roads in western Tanzania and this just so happens to be one of them, thanks to I think the Italian government. However, taking the paved road from the border crossing at Resumo to Ngara is at least twice as many km so we usually cross the river on the foot powered ferry and take the backroads. I will try to upload a picture of this foot powered ferry because it is pretty funny. It was only a few weeks ago when another landrover was going across on it and it sank, haha, but they seemed to be able to revive it again so I imagine we will start to travel that way again. The turned over truck was the result of the truck likely being over loaded and loaded unevenly so that the back end had too much weight on the one side and when it was coming up the hill and going around a slight bend the trailer just tipped over. the truck is still there but I think they used another truck to just push it off the road, which desimated the truck itself, unfortunatley, as it was still salvagable before they pushed it off. all they really had to do was disconnect the two. I think that the driver might still be standing gaurd too. If the truck was just left everything would be picked clean from the cargo and the truck would be chopped up for its parts. both of these pictures are in Tanzania on the lone paved road. I will try to post some pictures of the typical Tanzanian roads as soon as I can fix my computer, which has broke.Love CJ
