Hey DadThese safari pictures were taken when I took my short trip on Safari to the Serengeti and ngorongoro crater. The picture of the lion with his paw over his face was taken in the crater, which is essentially a plain that has developed inside an 'extinct' volcano. (I don't actually know if it is extinct but it obviously has not erupted in recent history.) I am in more of a treed hilly area, not quite a jungle but lots of hills and deciduous and coniferous vegitation. I think that it used to be a jungle but then had some serious deforestation, or at least that was what I was told. The area where the safari pictures were taken was on the serengeti plains so it is very much the image of the umbrella trees that first comes to mind when you think about Africa. These were all taken from a vehicle, not to worry, but that was about all that was between me and the lion. I was told that if they are hungry and on the hunt that even the vehicle is not enough protection but these lions looked like they were anything but hungry. Two days after this picture was taken we did see a couple of hunting lions and some successful ones. We also saw the leopard on the hunt which was really amazing. The safari was really fantastic and I would recommend it for anyone with a sense of adventure and some patients.
