My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Australia | Tuesday, October 12, 2010 | flickr photos

Melbourne, Australia.
When I am exploring a city or a 'place' the things that capture my eye and stir my imagination are more often the stories in the cracks...the things that most don't take the time to see. That could be a lonely puppy hanging out in an alley, just waiting for someone to play fetch with him (which we did), or a mass of people crammed together on a tram, or a silhouette of young woman against a wall of gritty graffiti. Its often the juxtaposition of elements that intrigues me. Its also the forgotten places that can be the most beautiful. Like the empty laneway, wet and cobbled and full of graffiti. Or it's a jumble of signs all blurred together begging the passersby to 'look, look, see what I've got for you!'. It's all these things that make up a city's heart and it's these things that I find most the intriguing, beautiful, and most definitely original and unique to a 'place'.

The opportunity to go to Bhutan and take part in this adventure would be beyond a dream come true for me. I have so much to learn about photography and the amount of photography knowledge I would gain from such an experience would be incredibly valuable to my career, but the life knowledge I would experience while on this adventure would be even more valuable to me as a person. I have a heart for serving people and a passion for travel and experiencing other cultures. We no longer live isolated from each other in different cities and different countries. In this new age of technology and global economy, we now live together in one world. And its so important for each of us to share our cultures and to stretch ourselves as individuals and experience what this world has to offer.

Thank you so much for considering my entries and I hope to see you soon!

Best wishes.
Chris Thele
