So today is queens day. what is queens day you may be asking yourself right now. all i know is that its the queens mom's birthday and the largest garage saie/flea market/party in amsterdam, maybe in all of europe? its the one day of the year when the queen lifts all sales tax so people bring out their wares, or junk as i like to call it, and peddle it on the streets of amsterdam. but more than that, its just a huge party. everyone wears orange, apparently thats the dutch national color. on my way to work this morning i wasnt fully prepared for the amount lf people clogging the streets. i left a half hour before my shift starts, normally it takes me about 20-25 minutes to walk but today it took almost 45. its a really good thing i didnt ride my bike too, the streets are so full of people that no trams are running today and they have completely blocked off the busiest streets in amsterdam. imagine dodge street being shut down so people can walk in the streets. music everywhere, and its europe so its all techno. im sitting at recetption working and have had a small respite from the constant thundering bass thats being blasted somewhere closeby outside. i can only imagine its coming from the red light. and i spoke too soon cause it just started up again! its really cool to see all of this though, to experience such a big holiday in a foreign country.
