My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
New Zealand | Sunday, January 6, 2013 | 3 photos
My life so far has been an eclectic mix of things – studying design, representing NZ at fencing and teaching English in the Czech Republic, to name a few. While they don’t exactly ‘fit’ together, the thing that has stayed strong through them all is my passion for photography. I even packed animal vaccines for 9 months to save for camera gear.
I’m not the loudest of people, and it’s not always easy for me to get my view across in a crowded room, but with photography, I have a tool that can grab people’s attention. It lets me have a voice beyond what I can achieve with my own, and that is what keeps me taking photos.
My hope for an opportunity like this is to be pushed outside of my comfort zone and be immersed in the culture that Oman has to offer. I’m eager to learn new techniques, new ways of thinking and to meet new people. Ultimately, I want to experience why Jason loves his work and be inspired by it.
I love the way photography can challenge perceptions, inspire, fascinate or even terrify people. I’m excited about the chance to evoke reactions like these on a world stage and hopefully begin my own career traveling and exploring the world through my camera.
