The Grass is Greener on The Other Side

Trip to Kota Kinabaluh & Nearby, Sabah

I know, I know, Malaysia doesn't live up to it's tip-top shape at the moment; our government, drug problems, water shortage, crazy shaman with coconuts in hand, etc all contribute to the bad reputation Kuala Lumpur is slowly building to its name.

They say, "The grass is always greener on the other side.", FACT. Just on the other side of Malaysia, a few hours by plane you can find yourself in Sabah. Kota Kinabalu is very much re-known for its floral beauty & landscape, an avid attraction magnet for climbers and people who relinquish in very sporty activities. Sabah is also known to have the best islands/beaches for snorkelling, diving, surfing, and so on.

Do you love seafood? NO problem, Kota Kinabalu resources the most fresh and finest seafood throughout most Malaysia, as everything is just off the port or sea. Butter prawns, lobsters, fish, in between the large variety of seafood you can choose from at a very affordable price. F&B is absolutely no problem wherever you choose to go in Sabah.

Friendly people? To the maximum! You are able to tell immediately the difference between the vibe in the local crowd from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu; local taxi drivers in Sabah don't HAGGLE and the local community there are just sincerely warm & inviting unlike the city rats in KL. The education system, if not even worse in Sabah than it is in Kuala Lumpur; is not a huge factor. There is no reason nor excuse for Kuala Lumpurians to act the way they do.

My mother & I took a short trip to KK, Sabah; we stayed at Nexus Karamabunai Beach Resort & Spa where our suite [which was damn cheap and inclusive of breakfast buffet every morning] had the balcony facing the beach which was nice when we stepped out and listened to the waves hitting the sand. As well as it being monsoon season [which means rain, rain, rain], it didn't stop us from going out to explore and walk around and discover the cute, cobbled streets in the city centre, great hidden food spots to gorge our palates on.

We then spent the last day on a roadtrip from KK to Kudat, to the The Tip of Borneo which is literally the end of Malaysia and surfer's paradise. It took us two hours to get there getting lost in the narrow, unmapped roads and two hours to get back; although when we were lost, we were pretty much still having the time of our lives. The green landscape of Sabah is something to definitely to admire, flocks of birds right next to the car every now and again, and so much green.
