My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
South Africa | Thursday, December 13, 2012 | 5 photos
Into the heart of Africa; the heat, the drums, the spirit of its people. This is where my journey began. Born in KwaZulu Natal and raised in the city of gold, Johannesburg, South Africa is where I draw inspiration from.
Having studied Anthropology, Zulu, English Literature, African Literature and Media Studies, and obtaining an Honours degree in Social Anthropology, I have dreamed of finding a career that combines photography, traveling, writing and learning about people and places. I grew up in an uncertain time where it was believed South Africa would collapse in civil war, people would be overcome with hatred and despair, and politics would destroy any glimmer of hope for the future. This did not occur. It is the greatest non-happening of all time and the greatest gift to younger generations as we feel empowered and privileged to experience this transition into a rainbow nation. It is this background that inspires me to encounter and understand people, places and practices unlike those that I am accustomed to.
Photography is my greatest passion; it is how I capture the world around me and share it with others. It allows me to be creative and express that which I see and feel
