Myriad colours of India

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, September 14, 2010 | 5 photos

All the 5 images are of Holi celebrations at Mathura (India). Holi is celebrated as festival of colours. Mathura Is the birth place of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna & his friend Radha played Holi in Mathura in their childhood. Devotees sing prayers in praise of Lord Krishna & Radha, while people keeps throwing colours & water on them. water and colours are considereed as blessing of Lord Krishna & Radha.
This was very difficult for me to shoot in these circumstances because I was also fully drenched with water & colours. I was not even able to open my eyes fully because both of my eyes were completely filled with colours. I rushed for water to clean my eyes but unfortunately all the taps were dry. I managed to get one mineral water bottle from nearby market and washed my eyes, after that Lord Krishna blessed me with these beautiful & colourful images. My eyes got infected and I went through two weeks of treatment.
I have never travelled a foreign country. First of all, this would be a great opportunity for me to know about people of Bhutan, traditional Bhutanese art, architecture, tradition & culture. The Bhutanese culture is one of the oldest and well preserved cultures in the world. This would be a rare opportunity for me to shoot historical architecture and traditional Bhutanese culture. I am pursuing a photographic project on different religions in world. My holi celebrations pictures are part of this project. As we know Buddhism is followed by 70% of the population of Bhutan. So, this would be a good opportunity to shoot Buddhist life style over there. And last but not the least I’ll get an opportunity to shoot wild life first time in my life and that also with world renowned photographer Jason Edwards. This would be a dream come true.
