My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I'm Cheslin Siebritz. I'm 23 yrs old and I am a photography student from Cape Town, South Africa. I've just completed one semester of photography and though much to learn, I've realized how empowering this art form is. How an image can speak a universal language, tell a story, or inspire change- shape a nation. I live in a country where an image did exactly that.
What fascinates me most about photography is that you get to capture rare moments where beauty is revealed in the most unexpected way - a feast for your eyes - which influences how you see yourself, transports you from 1 reality to the next. It could be so striking and memorable that it could only be thought up by a word.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to be apart of an age where photography is more relevant than ever before.
I've never had the opportunity to travel, let alone capture images of a foreign country and its people. So I'd be gaining a substantial amount of experience and training. I love to learn, which I consider an experience within itself.
This opportunity sounds like an excellent challenge, so I would be returning with a deeper understanding, appreciation and knowledge of myself and of photography.
