Helping Haitian Hands
Who are we? Why are we here?
A service trip to Haiti allowed me to trust human instinct and helped me to realize the innate needs of others. I was not there to photograph; however, I learned to respond to my instinct and desire to capture moments without disturbing/disrupting the present. I am a lifelong learner, new to the art of photography, and know more about what I do not know than what I do know. I am eager to continue learning about underprivileged people, cultures, and environments and hope to enhance my photography skills in order to capture the lives of others and share the story.
While in Haiti I felt nothing but love and comfort from a broken people. We have so much to learn from them. No matter our race, shape, or form we are all created the same, however our experiences try and define who we are. Through these series of photos I hope to share with people the beauty and hope that a defeated people still have. The community did not ask for pity for their scares, but rather they shared their open hearts and honest eyes through helping hands. A natural disaster and a broken country cannot destroy the human heart and hope that children can bring to a people.
