My Scholarship entry - A spiritual adventure

New Zealand born and raised, my enjoyment and appreciation of landscapes and other cultures has been ingrained in me for as long as I can remember. In 2007 I moved to the UK and whilst overseas I've really started to get a buzz from taking images that I'm proud of–whether streets in Sienna, wildlife in Scotland or simply a crepe stand at Camden.
My interest in photography started from my very first fluoro pink point and click camera. I didn’t start carrying this interest through however until a few years ago when I found myself wanting to spend more and more of my spare time with a camera in my hand. In many ways it was a bit of escapism and made those gray London days not quite so bleak when busy photographing puddles or stormy skies.
I can't begin to express how much I would like to make photography more than just a hobby. It would mean so much to me to have a mentor such as Jason offer advice. My long term goal is to open a cafe/gallery so that future generations can say, as I often did sitting in such galleries– “Wow, I want to be in that place, taking that shot”.The main reason I'd like to win– I want to be a photographer. This would be a huge step in the right direction.
