A young boy carries a costly loaf of bread home from the market.

Through the doorway of a Habana-Veija home I glimpsed a young boy holding his marbles in his hands while “nonchalantly” climbing a dilapidated and reinforced spiral staircase. A calm accepting attitude of the environment common to the residents of Habana-Veija.

This matriarch of a multigenerational family was generous enough to share her home and details of her daily life. Due to a caved in ceiling, the one habitable room in her home houses a makeshift kitchen, six adults and one infant. A proud woman, she was less concerned with what she didn’t have and more with what she did have.
