I just wrote a whole story and I forgot to save it within 60 minutes! I will get use to writing the blog eventually!!
Well it was kind of a therapeutic typing to explain how messed up my brain has been within the last 4-5 days before leaving everything and everybody behind. I guess I am not the first one to do this but it does require courage to go like this and specifically on my own.
My thoughts in the past days were that I am absolutely crazy to be going on my own after chosing to therefore be jobless, and without knowing where I will end up sleeping during the next 5+ months. This fortunately has been countered by excitement, and the thoughts that I have great friends already who are sharing their contacts with me and that anyway I will be meeting many people!!
So I am very excited now and definitely READY!! can't wait to discover places, people, landscapes, foods, noises, smells (???)
This post is written 2 days or less before I go! and to some extent I wanted to explain two main aspects of my trip.
The first one is to recognise a great community that exists on this planet! It is called Couchsurfing and my super friend Jani introduced me to it for the first time a few years ago on my first "road" trip between Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece. I have reconnected to CS in London and this philantropic project appeals to me very much. The concept is that you can meet people all around the world and bring your experience of places you visit to a local level, by meeting people born in these places or who happen to live there. Subsenquently it can also lead to being hosted. For me it is bringing travelling to another level and in a way to a larger extent bringing people together all around the world.
The second aspect I wanted to explain is why I chose San Francisco as my first destination.
As cliche as it might be, I got my first thrills about travel adventures through reading. And this was through Jack Kerouac, "On the Road". Athough he was the poet of the Beat Generation, this disenchanted generation of the post WW2/ Nucelar, drug user and alcoholic (yes, quite dark, right!), Kerouac surely inspired generations of travellers with his hitchiking adventures from NY to San francisco. The musical element of the time (bip-bop/Jazz) has also inspired me, although I must admit I have very little knowledge of music in general. I always pictured myself going to San Francisco with the same music in my earphones. Well, now, I am actually going travelling without any music or device to store/play music...But I am sure I will have the occasion! I am all ears!!!
So... San Francisco here I come!!! and Goodbye London!
P.S: one note for my dearest friends who I will be missing very much, I am happy to share my thoughts and experiences through this blog but I need to ask you to please, please, please send me some news as well through email or social networking because this has always cheered me up when I have been away and there is no better remedy than hearing from you and feeling part of your life.
