Patagonia's beating heart

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Argentina | Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 5 photos

It’s below freezing & I’m camped on a rocky moraine, anticipating the hardest day of my 7-day expedition - the 3,500 ft ascent of Marconi Glacier to reach the Southern Ice field. Carrying 30 kg of camera gear & provisions, I attach my crampons, & literally step aboard the vein of ancient ice.
After 10 hours, climbing crevasses & ice bridges, we finally reach the Ice field! Captivated by this fairy-tale wilderness, my need for exploration & photography is once again satisfied.
Despite my exhaustion, I‘m energized by the sense of freedom & surreal grandeur; determined, I set up my tripod.

My debut journey to Patagonia in 2002 awakened an unknown passion, igniting a dream that I have pursued relentlessly.

Returning yearly, I leave my job in allied health; fulfilling my quest to capture Patagonia’s landscapes & wildlife, to one-day share its rare beauty in a published book.

I have a natural inclination for challenging travel as my persevering nature craves a sense of achievement.
My determination to further my photography has been a massive labour of love and the opportunity to broaden my horizons in Oman would be a life changing experience that I would passionately embrace.
