I remember as if it was yesterday, the musty smell of the basement closet, the scent of old magazines. I must have not been older than 8 years old when I discovered the treasure hidden in the basement at Grandma's house, and when my obsession with photography began. Grandma had been collecting National Geographic Magazines since the 1950's. After I discovered this extraordinary collection of my Grandma’s, I remember spending hours upon hours in that dark closet under the stairs flipping though pages of National Geographic Magazines and imagining that I could be anywhere those magazines would take me -- China, Europe or Russia, I felt that through these images I could be anywhere in the world in the comfort of my Grandma’s basement. This is where my passion for Photography began and also where my desire to see the world transpired.
Today, I am a 22 year old College student graduating in December in Mass Communications. I love life, college football, traveling, my family, and photography! Photography to me encompasses so many aspects of life. I love creating images and seeing how someone can interpret it completely differently than I intended, which brings a whole new perspective to my work. There are always learning opportunities and I absorb everything I can from the amazing people around me and this is what drives me to become a better photographer, learning new things. I love learning! My dream would be to become a professional landscape photographer. I would love the opportunity for this scholarship and think I would be perfect for it because this is what I want to do with my life, and I am willing to bring an open mind to this opportunity so that I am capable of learning everything that Jason’s expertise can provide.
