I was born in California, USA, and moved with my family to Singapore when I was two. After completing high school, I moved back to California to complete my BA in Scandinavian Studies while spending every summer for a month each in Sweden learning Swedish. After completing my Bachelors, I moved to Iceland to complete my MA in Medieval Icelandic studies. I enjoy travelling and visiting new places, learning new languages, experiencing new cultures and photographing people. My photographic influences come from: Henri Cartier-Bresson, who has taught me a lot about creating geometrically beautiful photos; Ragnar Axelsson, who is a brilliant documentary photographer; and Adam Marelli, who has taught me a lot about how light falls and learning to photograph by studying classical paintings. For me, photography is a way of documenting life as I see it and to press the shutter button only when the mess of the scene organises itself without distorting the intended message. With my complicated background, love of travel and photography, being a photographer is part of the lifestyle.
