From the beginning!

Hi Everyone, At last I have finally set up this blog. Apologies to you all for the delay.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     We arrived in India on Tuesday morning the 9th Feb. and it was exactly what I thought, crazy. Lots of cars honking their horns, no traffic lights, lots of dogs and cows wandering around (we walked past a restaurant one night and there was a cow having a nap at the entrance on the inside!)

We stayed in the accomodation I had arranged in North Goa for 4 nights and the owners were really lovely (they gave us a lift to our next destination a the end of our stay, the husband was a tv anchor man). The place Candolin was nice but not great, it was a bit like the Canaries with lots of middle aged English on holiday. However, it was a good place to stay to ease ourselves in to India.

We then went to the capital city of Goa for a night. Its called Panjim and did some sightseeing and also saw the Carnival which was great. There are a lot of Catholic people in this state.

The next day we left at 7.30 to travel to Palolem. I agreed to give the buses a go because the train didn't go to this place. The difference in price was huge. The bus cost 50 Ruppees each , about 80 cent and a taxi would have cost 1,500 ruppees, so it was a no brainer. I have to admit I was a bit reluctant about taking the bus but it was fine. The people are very helpful and its great way to see real Indian life.

There is a lot of poverty and you see it everywhere, especially in the people who live and sleep by the side of the raods with no shelter. But its just something you have to get used to.

So, now we are here for a few days. We were initially only going to stay for two nights but as soon as we saw the place we decided to stay for three. The food is really good here as well. Its generally been quite good but I have been very careful about where we eat and haven't eaten any meat or salads.
