My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I like to take photographs because I love the idea that a photograph not only captures an image in time, but also conveys an emotion and story about the subject being photographed.
I am inspired by the world around me so I hope to take my photography skills to a level where I can incorporate it with my love of exploring new places and perhaps some day become a travel photographer. Travel photography especially appeals to me because it allows me to share parts of the world with others that may not have been there before.
Travel photography also allows to me to photograph the people of different cultures. This is one of my favourite photographic subjects because every face has a unique story behind it.
The destination of South Africa is especially appealing as the beauty of the landscape, the diversity of the people and scenery will speak volumes through imagery. I have a good level of fitness, which will be an asset as I anticipate that this destination will be physically challenging… and I always like a challenge!
As an amateur photographer, I am always looking to learn new methods and photography techniques as I believe I still have much room to improve.
I am especially eager to be mentored by Jason Edwards. The advice and knowledge he imparts would provide me with a level of education that I would never otherwise have the privilege of having access to and give me a push in the direction of my dream.
