Lal Pagdi's
A wedding. Indian
weddings typically tend to last 3 days or more depending on the loot inside
your safe. In Gujarati weddings, the first day is the bride to be’s Mehndi
Ceremony where all the giggling girls get together to put Mehndi on their hands
and the lower arms and legs if you’re the bride. Or the bride’s mother. The
second day is the Grah Shanti, which literally translated means Planets Peace.
Pooja’s are done to remove any obstacles caused by those pesky planets,
particularly if they happen to mis-align in your astrological house. Hmm. I
fear the madness inside mine is beyond human help. After having put those
mischievous planets to bed, the wedding unravels on the third day. It all
starts with a massive street parade to welcome the groom in all his glory into
the wedding venue. Cue lots of bollywood dancing and fanfare etc. I’ve
been to three weddings so far all of
which were a lot of fun.
