My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Daniele Roversi, a twenty-year-old, italian student attending 'Contemporary Media Practice' at the University of Westminster.
I left Italy two years ago intending to accomplish my dream to become a photographer and video maker. In Italy it is impossible to find a degree that integrates theory and practice as I am doing now, the reason for this is probably that in Italy, theory is now considered to be superior to practice; I disagree. The problem only comes when theory completely substitutes experience, as progression can only truly develop from trial and error.
I have been lucky growing up, and have travelled to many places on family holidays. We never travelled to the same place twice, while everybody else was making 'beach friends', everyday I was brought to a different place; at the time I hated it, now I realize it has been the greatest gift my parents could ever give me: the pleasure of experiencing new places and people.
I enjoy documenting and telling stories; unfortunately I am not very good with writing. For this reason when I find myself in front of a story, instead of ignoring it, I have always preferred to tell the story with pictures and small captions.
