My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Ireland | Wednesday, January 2, 2013 | 5 photos

As I sat in a job interview for an investment bank two weeks ago,I was asked “Why do you want to work here? Why are you not a photographer?”.I was at a loss for words.
That innocent question brought me back to the moment I received my first camera, printed my first photo in the darkroom and the endless joy I felt going to sleep after having captured ‘that’ photo.
I didn’t discover photography by choice but because of a high school graduation requirement. Since,it has been a choice and I haven’t turned back. My eyes have been opened to a whole new world and way of seeing.
Four years on, my passion has grown exponentially. I have been lucky that I have had the opportunity to travel, particularly in Asia. I have used every trip to learn from new environments to improve my photography skills.
Photography is how I think, it’s what I do. There’s an intimacy and responsibility in creating an image that will one day come to represent a village, a person, a moment.
Travelling to Arabian Peninsula is a dream of mine. I have little technical training and this scholarship would be a once in a lifetime chance to gain invaluable skills and and me help get a foot in the door towards my dream job.
