It was then

A place with bundles of culture, food that leaves me surprised I'm not overweight yet, with scenery that stretches till you can't see anymore, and with sunsets that leave you breathless and wishing that you could freeze time forever. Many memories flourish in my head and make me excited to hopefully relive them one day, but, one that took me for whirlwind of fun was my trip around New Mexico. I was about 14, my brothers were planning a camping trip, the couch potato I am had finally jumped on the bandwagon and invited myself along. We packed the car up, and took off for southern New Mexico. Our first stop on our trip was the White Sands, basically, a desert version of snow. Glistening, smooth, and white. Hours could be wasted sitting, drawing on the sand itself, or some people have "snowboarded" down the dunes that are there. None the less, the time is well spent, but the moment of pure beauty is sunset, a sky painted just for you of blues, pinks, oranges, and purples setting perfectly with the sun at her finest shade of orange. Breathtaking. The next stop of the trip was a KOA campground just outside of Carlsbad, no five star hotel, but definitely five star camping in my book. Multiple RV's parked in slots, and the random tent set up in designated places. The faint smell of a barbecue burning, with laughter from families filling the air. At night is when it is the quietest, time to reflect, unless two burly raccoons decide they want to have a fight on who is the tougher one, which did happen at two in the morning, sounded like five cats. But, like all good fights it came to and end, and the night was left at a still. The morning is at its best as well, beautiful sun creeping into our eyes letting us know that day is upon us, and there is adventure to be discovered. The next venture from KOA was Carlsbad Caverns. A cave that goes on for miles and miles into complete darkness and mystery. Filled with exuberant shapes of limestone, making you stop for a split second in fear that you are inside a giant monsters mouth. Endless trails, endless adventures, amazing memories, with a meeting place in the middle where pickles, personal pizzas, and bathrooms are at your leisure. After time spent in the caves, finding your way out seems endless, but well worth the adventure. Once you see daylight again, it feels as if the time you spent in the dark just disappeared and you are back in reality. Alas, the time has come and venturing back...(continued in my about me)
