My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
USA | Monday, January 14, 2013 | flickr photos
As Ansel Adams once said, “A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” Whether I’m shooting on a DSLR, HD video camera, or iPhone this quote is always in the back of my mind. As a photo and video journalist, you have to know where to stand, what to stand down to, and who to stand up to in order to tell the story you came for.
I am currently a Kaiser Permanente Journalism Fellow at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism where I am focusing in television and multimedia. I also work as a Multimedia Graduate Student Researcher where I help others access tools for visual storytelling. I have earned the trust of sources to photograph many sensitive stories about health care and culture.
I first fell in love with photography as child in a darkroom during a summer course on black and white photography. I now adjust the exposure of my photos digitally and love to share my photography online with others. I am the photo contributor for the Mobile Reporting Field Guide in iTunes (www.mobilereportingguide.com).
If chosen for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I promise to bring everything I can to documenting our journey and letting the people of Oman tell me where to stand.
