My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am an amatuer in the field of photography and a fan of the National Geograhic Channel, It is a venue for amazing things in this world and beyond. I am driven by passion and i thirst to learn more and through this scholarship,it will truly broaden my mind and creativity, hopefully this will be my stepping stone towards being a professional photographer .I love taking pictures of people around me, most especially those that are not paid attention very so often- the simple ordinary people. i believe that every single one of us have a story to tell and i want to capture it.
I chose these four photographs because they are dramatic and meaningful.

Lonely Fisherboy- I took this photograph while the little boy was resting near the baywalk. It was late in the afternoon and still no fish in his net. At a very young age he is working. It is something that saddens me and inspires me.
Train Stop- A guard stands quietly as the train passes by, a routinary work, seeing the train leaving while he stand still and making sure of the safety of the passengers. i imagine his yearning to leave and come home to his family. i felt that it was a dramatic shot, i love the stillness and the movement.
Filipino Kids- this was a fun shot, i was taking pictures of one kid on a carabao statue then his friends run to join. the little boy in front was actually crying but when he saw me taking pictures he ran and smiled to the camera. These children taught me the simple joys of life---being free and happy amidst a hard life.
Lone defender- a soldier fresh from battle and finally comes home to his family.

Photography is my craft, it is the reason why i wake up in the morning feeling great and have a purpose.
