UB continued...

We decided to splurge on breakfast this morning.  There is something very comforting about bacon and eggs.

We went to the Museum of Mongolian History yesterday. It's a shabby little museum with good displays on the Mongolian Empire and it's demise.  It also had a great display of traditional clothing worn by the different ethnic groups of Mongolia. It was interesting to see how many different ethnic groups there are.  Most of the displays had English descriptions of what we were looking at.

In the evening we went to a performance showcasing traditional Mongolian dance and music.  This was the highlight of our stay in UB. There were musicians, folk singers, dancers in beautiful dress, contortionists (amazing), and throat singing (my favorite). The troup began in 1989 and have performed all over the world.  The entire show was simply amazing.

We decided to go for a drink being it was the last night of our stay in UB.  A couple of the pubs we went into were pretty lame, so we ended up at one of the many Irish pubs in town (there are at least four of them). Smoking is allowed in public places in Mongolia as in China. It's hard to enjoy yourself while sucking up lungfuls of second hand smoke. After a couple drinks and a bowl of chips we headed home for bed.
