My Scholarship entry - Denizens
New Zealand | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos
Lately, I've taken a less centric approach to my photos. This occurred to me when
I was with a model and she said to me, 'Allen, you make me look beautiful' as if I were granting her the adjective of beauty.
In that moment I realised that I didn't flatter her nor am I responsible for making anyone beautiful nor any of the scenery I photograph.
What I am is a creative lucky to have mountains or a model as the nexus of my photo's beauty.
The photographs I'm submitting are from my last adventure.
I found, through my explorations that some buildings have become a denizen for the homeless. I found, after talking to them, that they had more to say than sadness and their identity isn't defined by shortcomings. On that day I asked myself, knowing full well this story you are given, how do you want to impart your photos on the world?
I am a child of learning and mistakes. I watch my daydreams go down in defeat and be overjoyed when my dreams do overflow into life.
I shoot everything wonderful because I get excited when I see any beauty in it's supreme development.
I am a photographer, an adventurer and a story teller.
I am Allen Carbon, 24, and I would be honoured if you pick me.
