My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I always find that people tell the best story of where you are visiting. This isn't always easy as they can be reluctant to allow you to photograph them so at times a quick turn and snap is needed. I tried to have a good mix of people and environment in my selection. Morocco is a magical destination and there are so many images that can tell a story.
The man walking on the rock ledge in front of a washed wall while laundry dried on rod iron window bars. I thought this showed three levels of Moroccan building. The old rock, with a newer wall with a modern building behind.
The chickens and turkeys lay perfectly still until touched. The man on the left going about his business of cleaning his ears while a young boy hides behind a cage.
The young Moroccan girl, framed within a door. I thought it made her seem even smaller in this big world. The future of Morocco, with her hijab and her blue flip flops.
Boats in organized confusion, the lines with blue and vibrant yellow stripe. The struggle of trying to get your boat out of the middle.
Two boats staring out to sea. I sat here for a while just staring with them, watching the gulls soar up and down with the smell of fresh fish behind.
I love to travel when budget and time allows. Morocco was a far away destination and an amazing experience. The first time you hear the call to prayer will stay with you for a lifetime. The sights, smells and sounds are like none that I had experienced before.
Being able to go to South Africa and be mentored by a professional photographer would be an opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that would stay with me forever. To see the people and environment that make up this amazing part of our world would be unparalleled experience to any adventure I have been on.
