My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Tanzania | Saturday, December 8, 2012 | 5 photos

Intentionally, my educational career has allotted me the privilege of seeing the perspective of the “other” and to bridge the gap. I have broken bread with the homeless in Skid-row in downtown Los Angeles, traversed Lake Victoria with locals in a traditional Sukuma boat, taken classes on Wilshire Street in Koreatown Los Angeles, studied aerospace with members of the US Air Force, dialogued with Coptic Christians in an Egyptian community in Beverly Hills, and sat in on parental counseling sessions for former convicted gang members. My education has been based in experience.
In a world that is so visually stimulated, pictures are the manifestations of these experiences; experiences that will forever be stitched in the fabric of the minds that come across profound images. Good photography is good storytelling. I am driven to one day be a grand storyteller, not like a grandpa on the lap kind of a way, but through imagery. I would love to capture the essence of an experience. With the growing interconnectedness that we find ourselves in the 21st century, the experiential nuggets that are exposed through imagery will one day be the most memorable composition of our existence.
