I was inspired to film Emmitt Watson after passing by the San Francisco Columbarium on my way to and from school every morning. I was always intrigued with the building, so I stopped by one day and met the caretaker. His personal connection to such an unfamiliar and peculiar place encouraged me to pull out my camera. Since graduating, I have continued to pursue my passion for documentary filmmaking and have assisted on various film projects from Death Row to genomics. I think there is something truly beautiful about capturing real people and real moments on camera unlike anything else, and this scholarship will help me use my media to reveal truths, not only about global issues or human nature, but also about ourselves.
